Vaishnavi stars as India set up final with Malaysia

BENGALURU: India tore into a defensive y weak and error-prone Kazakhstan to register a 77-40 victory in the semifinal of the FIBA U-16 Women's Asian Championship at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here and now remain just a win away from returning to Division 'A'.
In Sunday's Division 'B' final, the hosts will face a stern test from challengers Malaysia, who had no trouble ousting Iran 85-68. Vaishnavi Yadav was again the cynosure (21points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists), barely missing out on what would have been a brilliant triple double. Along with Pushpa Senthil Kumar's double-double (14 points, 16 rebounds), India's well-oiled offense proved to be a harrowing affair for the Kazakhs, who rued a night of poor finishing and defending.
Managing to convert only 20% of their shots, Kazakhstan's field shooting worsened as the game progressed as Neha Karwa and Pushpa combined well to hit them on the break and stretch India's lead to a comfortable 6130 by the third quarter and eventually to a well-deserved victory.

China's dominance was served a crushing blow by Australia as the Oceania debutants clinched a stunning 86-46 win in their Division 'A' semifinal.
